Issue about using CAC

I would like to use the javax.smartcardio to access information off a CAC. I can retrieve information about the card itself, but do not know what to do next. I know the AID of the applet, but have no idea what APDU commands to send to retrieve the information I want. Does anyone here have experience on CAC development?
