I got some java cards. However, I know nothing about these cards but the card model. Is there any method to check the failed authentication counter? And how can I know if the cards are already blocked due to too much failed tries?

To check if your card is locked, you can send GET STATUS command, it will return Life Cycle State. If the card is locked, it will be in the CARD_LOCKED state
