Princeton Junction, N.J., July 13, 2016 – Contactless payments provide U.S. issuers and merchants with an opportunity to improve payments security, transaction speeds and the customer experience. To help payments stakeholders better understand the value and benefits contactless payments provide, the Smart Card Alliance released a new white paper today, “Contactless EMV Payments: Benefits for Consumers, Merchants and Issuers.” The white paper answers the most important questions about the adoption of contactless payments, such as: how contactless fits into today’s payment industry; what is currently different from earlier adoption attempts; and why the ideal time to go contactless is now.

The white paper, created by the Smart Card Alliance’s Payments Council, can be downloaded at http://www.smartcardalliance.org/publications-contactless-emv-payments-benefits-for-consumers-merchants-and-issuers/.

“From looking at other countries that have already successfully moved to contactless EMV payments, the benefits of the technology for U.S. payments stakeholders are clear, and now is the time for the U.S. to take advantage of the opportunities this technology provides,” said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance. “The white paper provides the industry with a clear understanding of these benefits, and also provides implementation guidance for stakeholders interested in taking steps towards contactless adoption.”

The white paper looks at how the U.S. migration to EMV chip technology can propel the widespread adoption of EMV contactless and NFC-enabled mobile payments, and summarizes implementation considerations for issuers and merchants.

Readers will also gain an understanding of the benefits of contactless payments, including:

 - For issuers: improved customer experience and portfolio utilization; enhanced security; easy dual-interface card deployment; global interoperability; and complementary strategy to mobile payment app issuance
- For merchants: improved customer experience and transaction speeds; enhanced security new cardholder verification methods; support for all forms of contactless payment with both cards and NFC-enabled mobile devices; use of current POS infrastructure; reduced cash handling and higher transaction amounts

For more information about the Payments Council, visit http://www.smartcardalliance.org/activities-councils-payments/.

Participants involved in the development of this white paper included: Advanced Card Systems; American Express; Bell ID; Capgemini; CH2M; Chase Commerce Solutions; CPI Card Group; Discover Financial Services; First Data Corporation; Fiserv; Gemalto; Giesecke & Devrient; Ingenico Group; Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA); NXP Semiconductors; Oberthur Technologies; Quadagno & Associates; TSYS; Verifone; Visa Inc.; Wells Fargo; and Xerox.

Munich, Germany, June 27, 2016 – Online applications on mobile devices require new methods of secured log-in. The FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance has developed security standards for strong authentication that are simple to use and protect more efficiently from fraud. Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) today announced the first FIDO-certified Bluetooth low energy (BLE) reference design for wireless authentication tokens. By using such a token in addition to their password, consumers can conveniently and securely authenticate their online activities on mobile devices.

“63 per cent of all successful online breaches can be tracked back to inadequate passwords,” said Joerg Borchert, Vice President of the Chip Card & Security Division at Infineon Technologies Americas Corp and Board Representative in the FIDO Alliance. “The FIDO industry standard is a great opportunity to improve both the security and usability of online services. We are pleased to be the first company offering a certified reference solution for FIDO BLE. This makes it easier for our customers to implement the FIDO standard into their products.”

Bluetooth low energy as a communication protocol is ideal for connecting an authentication token to mobile and wireless applications and devices that do not have a USB port. At the core of the FIDO BLE reference design is an Infineon Secure Element which performs fast cryptographic operation and securely stores the code. Being certified and FIDO-ready, the reference design allows manufacturers of connected security devices to easily integrate the FIDO Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) standard with the BLE transceiver of their choice.

The FIDO Alliance’s U2F standard uses public key cryptography to add second factor authentication to online log-in services. As a founding and Board Member of the FIDO Alliance, Infineon worked closely with other FIDO member companies to develop the standards. FIDO is already implemented by companies such as Google, DropBox and GitHub. Infineon, the leading supplier of embedded security solutions, accelerates implementation of FIDO with reference designs supporting U2F USB, U2F NFC, and U2F BLE standards. More information can be found at: www.infineon.com/fido

Infineon makes the Internet of Things (IoT) smart, secure and power efficient. Sensors, controllers, power components and security solutions are the building blocks for all major IoT applications from connected cars to industrial or smart home applications. We help our customers to create sustainable IoT success with benchmarking semiconductor technologies and our system understanding of the automotive, energy and security markets. Further information is available at: www.infineon.com/iot

Columbus, Ga., June 21, 2016 — TSYS (NYSE: TSS) and Equinox Payments (“Equinox”), a leading provider of payment terminals, applications and support services, today announced the availability of a semi-integrated payments solution to help Value-Added Resellers (VARs) quickly and easily develop and release EMV®-certified technology to their customers. Running on the Equinox Apollo terminal, the Voyager application is an EMV-certified solution with features specifically designed for lodging, as well as retail and restaurant environments.

“Our new solution developed with Equinox allows VARs and their merchants to get on the right side of the EMV liability shift,” said Craig Ludwig, group executive, TSYS’ Merchant Services segment. “By leveraging the TSYS-certified Equinox Apollo terminal as a semi-integrated solution, developers can accelerate their EMV deployment using a suite of tools to integrate their point-of-sale (POS) solution. We’re proud to offer our clients a robust solution that not only reduces the costs and time required for EMV certification, but also provides advanced security features, including encryption and tokenization, to guard against credit card fraud.”

“We’re excited to offer VARs the ability to interface with our semi-integrated solution so that they can quickly implement EMV and contactless payments while reducing the headaches associated with annual PCI compliance validation,” said Rob Hayhow, vice president, Equinox. “The EMV certification process is complex, so this approach equates to an ‘easy button’ for VARs.”

The EMV liability shift exposes merchants to an increase in chargebacks — which impacts their bottom line — and many of the legacy terminal solutions that support lodging functionality are retiring this summer because they cannot be upgraded to support EMV. As a result, many small- and mid-sized hotel operators — and the VARs that support them — are left without a viable solution to support features such as check-in/check-out, deposits, no-shows, incremental purchases and quick-stay transactions. The Voyager payment application supports a host of important features for the retail, restaurant and lodging industries. Payment amounts are passed from the POS to the Apollo terminal, which directly communicates to the processor for authorization, reporting the results back to the POS for transaction completion and receipt printing. No sensitive card data is shared with the POS.

The Voyager application — compatible for stand-alone and semi-integration — is certified to support up to 20 multi-merchant configurations, as well as TSYS Guardian EncryptionSM and TSYS Guardian TokenizationSM. The solution also supports Visa’s Quick Chip and MasterCard’s M/Chip Fast processing. These options allow consumers to insert and immediately remove their chip card, mimicking the speed of a traditional magnetic stripe transaction.

“Visa is pleased to see TSYS and Equinox help more businesses become chip-ready with a pre-certified chip solution,” said Stephanie Ericksen, vice president of Risk Products, Visa Inc. “By integrating Quick Chip, the Equinox Voyager solution can enable faster transactions and simpler chip implementations, bringing the security benefits of chip technology to more consumers and merchants.”

EMV is a registered trademark or trademark of EMVCo LLC in the United States and other countries.
